Control4, the industry leader in smart home automation; winning a record number of CE Pro industry awards is hiring right now for an Open Source Audit Intern. This is a full or part-time position for a period up to three months.

Open Source Auditing involves investigating licenses and copyrights in open source and third-party software to deliver proper compliance. You will use analysis tools and online resources to drill down to provenance, analyze proprietary software, record attribution data, and produce reports. Key skills include quick learner, attention to detail, tenacity, and an inquisitive mind. An appreciation of open source software is a big plus.

You will work with engineers, legal team, and members of the Open Source Review Board.

At the conclusion of the internship you will have considerable understanding of the open source analysis and management process applicable to any organization using or producing open source software.

ITEMIZED DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Using Open Source Analysis tools, you will investigate identify and provenance in open source and third-party software used in Control4's various products.

  • Record details about the identified software
  • Ensure proper attribution
  • Alert members of the Open Source Review Board of issues to remedy
  • Work with legal and engineering staff
  • Publish inventory and reports
  • Initiate and reconcile software scans

NEEDED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

An Open Source Audit Intern can have virtually any background.

  • Ability to learn to use software to analyze open source and proprietary software through documentation, online training, and working with others
  • Conduct online searches and analyze results
  • Understand copyright notices
  • Read software licenses and guides to licenses to determine key obligations in conjunction with legal team, online resources, critical thinking, and leveraging members of the Open Source Review Board

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree or near completion, most any discipline including law, engineering, and humanities
  • Interest in varied topics that may include copyright, intellectual property, and technology
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new things
  • Self-directed and motivated to succeed
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
  • Tenacity, inquisitiveness, and detail-oriented personality
