In this role, you'll be responsible for the technical direction, team management, process development, gathering/defining requirements, and helping solve business needs.  Your strategic direction will guide a team of high performing developers in the creation of cutting edge user interfaces for Control4's market leading home automation eco-systems.

As a member of Control4's product leadership team you'll work collaboratively with other department leaders to define creative strategies, drive technology initiatives and further secure Control4's position as market leader. This role reports to Charlie Kindel, SVP of Products and Services for Control4. Before joining Control4, Charlie was the Amazon Alexa Smart Home Chief and Windows Media Center founder.

 

ITEMIZED DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Drive development of iOS and Android projects based on objectives and business requirements.
  • Provide leadership and direction to department staff; establishes annual performance objectives and evaluates performance; identifies future and current skills needs and creates appropriate developmental activities.
  • Gain a sound understanding of our development environment, identify technology gaps and lead projects to close those gaps.
  • Work with product and program managers to author user stories and manage product backlog.
  • Champion efforts focused on attracting, developing and retaining high performing software engineering teams, offer ongoing feedback, professional growth opportunities and overall career guidance.
  • Work closely with the architecture team and help define and enforce an architecture as context for technology decisions.
  • Ensure that all activities support the application-related needs of our company by aligning priorities with the business needs.
  • Create processes and supporting metrics to ensure efficiency and quality of application development implementation and maintenance.
  • Participate in defect triage as needed and work with teams to resolve prioritized defect fixes.

NEEDED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of various mobile, embedded, and desktop software architectures, and a history of shipping Android and iOS applications.
  • Experience working with RESTful and SOAP APIs.
  • Experience with managing and mentoring high-performance Agile-based engineering teams.
  • Experience delivering software using agile methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong experience with development processes, including code management, manual and automated testing, and CI/CD processes.
  • Experience deploying applications that utilize a cloud based backend.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • Hands on experience building continuous integration pipelines using Jenkins and a beta testing tool like Test Flight.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8-10 years professional software experience, with experience developing software, mobile apps, and backend & cloud services.
  • 3+ years of experience managing other managers with a team of their own.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
  • Solid understanding of computing systems, software architecture and processes.
  • Strong sense of self-motivation, organization and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Passionate about home automation!
