Control4 is looking for a Database Administrator with strong SQL skills and experience working with both transaction and analytics workloads. This person will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server relational and dimensional systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a "hands-on" position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and sustainment of the SQL Server stack, ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance), executing data loads, and performing data modeling in support of Control4's various application development and data management teams.

The DBA will be part of the IT Data Services team which is responsible for the design and administration of the company's enterprise data architecture, data warehouse, and data governance strategies. Data Services also publishes original reports and dashboards, and works directly with analysts across the company to help with their own reporting initiatives.

ITEMIZED DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to production systems;
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including system health and performance monitoring, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security;
  • Assist developers and business intelligence analysts with complex query tuning and schema refinement;
  • Perform occasional, scheduled after-hours tasks related to maintenance or release deployments;
  • Provide after-hours support for critical production systems;
  • Share domain and technical expertise by providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members;
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes;
  • Manage database systems under Sarbanes-Oxley control;
  • Contribute to the design and development of Control4's enterprise data warehouse;
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers on data collection, data quality, and ETL projects feeding into the Control4 Enterprise Data Warehouse.

NEEDED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience tuning production Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure, including hardware and application configuration;
  • Experience performance-tuning SQL queries using various combinations of indexes, query hints, and server configuration;
  • Experience implementing and documenting ETL processes using SQL Server Integration Services;
  • Experience collaborating with application developers and data engineers on SQL query development;
  • Close attention to detail and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, on multiple projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years Microsoft SQL Server administration experience required;
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools;
  • Experience with backups, restores, and recovery models;
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server;
  • Demonstrated experience writing SQL, T-SQL, database stored procedures;
  • Experience tuning queries and applying indexing strategies for analytics workloads in addition to OLTP workloads;
  • Experience with logical and physical data modeling;
  • Experience administering the Microsoft SQL Server BI stack (SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS);
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, data management, or computer science; or equivalent work-related experience.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience administering MySQL, MariaDB, and/or PostgreSQL;
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services and/or Power BI;
  • Experience measuring and reporting on operational KPIs like server uptime, SQL Agent Job run success/failure rates, query performance KPIs;
  • Experience managing and querying data in data lakes and/or cloud data repositories such as Snowflake, Cloudera, HDInsight, Google Big Query, or Amazon Redshift;
  • MCTS, MCITP, and/or MVP certifications a plus.
