The Sr. Director of Hardware Quality and Manufacturing Operations is responsible for oversight of the production release process, hardware development quality system design, and on-going support of new hardware products (both internally developed and OEM/JDM) within the Control4 product portfolio. The position is also responsible with analyzing and driving overall hardware quality at Control4. This position leads direct and indirect team members that are responsible for the release process and support of all hardware products including Change Management, Hardware PQA, Manufacturing Engineering, and Manufacturing Test Development.

 

ITEMIZED DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: 

  • Review test plans, test cases, and results to validate new products and improve existing products.
  • Oversee product validation and design verification of hardware in a lab environment.
  • Oversee the documenting of engineering change management process for Control4.
  • Organize and implement test tools and processes for the review and verification of hardware products.
  • Implement and monitor test systems and update platforms for hardware products at all Contract Manufacturing partners and applicable Control4 fulfillment centers.
  • Develop new test procedures and enhance existing ones to ensure Control4's products reliability and usability.
  • Oversee the analyses of all returned products to identify manufacturing defects, design issues, and resolve all hardware issues in coordination with development engineers.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on manufacturing processes by conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with Contract Manufacturing partners.
  • Oversee the development of manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment suppliers.
  • Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to reduce cost, eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations on long-term warehousing (test and updating processes and equipment) and capital planning meeting the demand requirements associated to the corporate mid and long term business plans.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Partner with Contract Manufacturers to identify and address quality issues through the hardware design process in support of overall product release schedules.
  • Help to continuously improve our product development processes.
  • Work closely with the Control4 Technical Support manager to ensure hardware issues are resolved; allocate resources to diagnose, debug, and fix problems on Control4 hardware.
  • Work closely with the executive team to set company strategy and direction.
  • Introduce new ideas, new processes, and new tools to improve execution capabilities.
  • Responsible for ensuring positive employee relations are continuously being developed and maintained by direct reports.

NEEDED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5+ years with a hardware design background such as electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • 10+ years direct experience in electronics manufacturing and manufacturing test (both ICT and Functional).
  • 5+ years experience leading/managing a formal change management team.
  • 5+ years leading /managing a cross-disciplinary environment with some amount of responsibility for Hardware PQA, manufacturing, supply chain and, or operations.
  • 3+ years of working with remote contract manufacturers to establish overall quality systems, measurements, and corrective action.
  • Comfortable working in a growing company with ever-changing priorities.
  • Effective and timely delivery of test process and overall quality plan to support delivery of hardware products on schedule
  • Ability to manage allocation of resources as needed to meet requirements for new product development and current product support. Hold individuals accountable to their goals.
  • Multi-site experience with manufacturing and quality assurance responsibility.
  • Provide leadership to team to drive overall product reliability strategy including of HALT/HASS, ICT, Functional/Acceptance Testing, and IQC sampling to ensure robust quality program.
  • Fostering an environment that supports continuous process improvement.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • BS Degree in a technical discipline - Engineering or Manufacturing.
  • Proven experience working with contract manufacturers with English as a second language.
  • Experience leading a diverse team with manufacturing, test, and product quality engineering disciplines as well as PLM oversight.
  • Executive experience and comfort working directly with CEO and executive staff of the company on a daily basis.
  • Experience owning a substantial budget for a company and driving financial forecast for both expense and capital equipment expenditures.
  • Independent self starter and leader of others.
  • Ability to Travel: Up to 30% of the time.
