The Sr. Director of Hardware Engineering is responsible for leading the design, development, test and launch of new Hardware and Firmware products within the Control4 Portfolio. This role is responsible for establishing engineering goals and metrics as well as tracking the metrics toward success.  This position leads direct and indirect team members that produce hardware products.



  • Being the kind of manager and mentor that inspires your team member to produce industry best, reliable, exciting Hardware products that delight consumers.
  • Sourcing, interviewing, and closing new members of the team.
  • Partnering with our manufacturers to ensure we deliver on our promises to our customers.
  • Improve our product development processes, ensuring user centric product development. Establish key deliverables and milestones, such as stakeholder input, definition of success and corresponding metrics.
  • Develop communication plans for, and document, everything from new product development and related internal training needs, to system vulnerabilities and outages.
  • Work closely with the support manager to ensure platform issues are resolved; allocate engineering resources to diagnose, debug, and fix problems in Control4 hardware.
  • Working closely with the executive team to set company strategy and direction.
  • Introducing new ideas, new processes, and new tools to improve our execution capabilities


  • You've been the executive responsible for shipping a hardware product that people love.
  • You have a technical hardware background such as electrical engineering and/or mechanical engineering.
  • You've grown and managed teams who are eager to work with you again.
  • You are comfortable working in an aggressive company with ever-changing priorities.
  • You work well in a cross-disciplinary environment with peers responsible for things like Hardware QA, Manufacturing, supply chain and, operations, etc.
  • You're passionate about building great hardware... and still know that you sometimes have to make some tradeoffs to ship quickly.
  • Ensure timely delivery of hardware products and upgrades. Set and communicate priorities.
  • Allocate and reallocate resources as needed. Hold individuals accountable to their goals.
  • You've shipped consumer hardware products before.
  • Experience in more than one of the areas we rely on, such as audio, video, and lighting systems.


  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10 years or more experience developing hardware products.
